Marching Band

The Cypress Woods HS "Wildcat" Band is a Varsity organization that focuses on the competitive aspect of the marching arts. The group works on a new production each fall, and performs this show at Varsity football games and marching band contests including UIL and Bands of America (BOA) Regional and Super Regionals. All members are held to the highest standards of musicianship, athleticism, academic eligibility, attitude, and attendance. Members rehearse 7 to 8 hours per day during July and August Band Camp, and 7-8 hours per week outside of the school day between late August and early November once school is in session, adhering to the UIL 8-hour rule. 

With roughly 320 members in the organizationthe Cypress Woods Band is one of the most visible organizations on campus and in the community. The band consists of brass, woodwind, percussion, and the Nova Dance & Color Guard. All marching brass and auxiliary woodwind instruments are provided by the district. Students will receive Fine Arts and P.E. credits for their participation in the activity. 

All 8th-11th grade students are expected to participate in the May Camp - Show Preview rehearsals and performance in late May, as well as attending pre-season training in late July and all of August Band CampMissing any of these events could impact a member's chance of earning a competitive marching spot in the show. All students enrolled for band or Nova participate in the marching band. 

Most recently, the Cypress Woods Marching Band and NOVA was named a finalist at the 2020 UIL State Marching Band Contest. In 2021, the band was named the silver-medalist at the BOA North Houston Regional and was the Lone Star Preview - Grand Champion. Since 2021, the band has been a consistent UIL State Marching Band Contest Participant and BOA Regional Finalist.
